The "Big Island" is more then twice the size of Oahu, Maui and Kauai combined. You can bake on the beaches of the Kohala coast, and during the winter months , go snow skiing atop Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. You can hike in close enough to see the active lava flows at Kilauea, Hawaii's only active volcano. Or try horseback riding at the Parker Ranch.
So whether you are the adventurous type, or the sort of person who'd rather relax by the pool with a mai-tai, the Hilo Hawaiian is a great starting point for exploring every adventure that the " Big Island" has to offer, or the perfect sanctuary to relax and do nothing at all.
